Julius Caesar (the Prof)

Tuesday night is pretty much our theatre night (I didn't bother writing about last week's show--which gives you some idea of how bad it was.  I don't think you even have to worry about knowing it's name so you can avoid it.  It'll never play in the US) so last night we headed to a small theatre to see Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

I really liked both the theatre and the cast.  The theater was smaller, with pretty much every seat having a close view.  We actually sat down low last night (they call it "the stalls")  We were on about the sixth row, which was actually closer to the back than the front.  There was an entrance ramp right next to us, which meant actors were coming and going right by us all night.  Made for a very intimate show.

The story's not exactly a surprise, so the acting needs to be good, and it was.  I think it was the easiest Shakespeare to understand I can ever remember.  The actors really brought the characters to life.  It's almost tiring trying to keep up with Shakespeare, but really worth the effort when it's done well.  Just some terrific lines--"Cowards die many times before their deaths, the valiant only taste of death but once"  Antony's funeral speech, even Casca's line about Cicero -- "it was all Greek to me"
